What Is My Job on This Planet?

For a little while now I have the great privilege of giving the closing keynote at Singularity University’s Executive Program. Toward the end of my remarks, I present the audience with a set of questions, all geared toward focussing attention inward and finding an answer to the age-old question of what our place in life is.

Recently I discovered a better set of questions than the ones I am using.

Famed architect, systems theorist and futurist Buckminster Fuller once asked himself a powerful set of questions which ended up revolutionizing his life:

What is my job on this planet? What is it that needs doing, that I know something about, that probably won’t happen unless I take responsibility for it?

It surely is something worth pondering, as when you find an answer you will find the key to genuinely building what matters (and you are uniquely positioned to do).

This post is part of the “The Heretic”, Pascal Finette’s insights into leadership in exponential times. For entrepreneurs, corporate irritants and change makers. Raw, unfiltered and opinionated — delivered straight to your inbox. You will like it. https://theheretic.org
