What To Spend Money On

Founders sometimes have funny habits when it comes to spending money. They end up buying stuff nobody needs (hello karaoke system which nobody ever used), which is useless (thank you for the awful schwag) or simply superfluous (all those software licenses for stuff we don’t use).

When it comes to spending money (and this is true for funded startups and even more so for the bootstrappers out there) there are only two categories you should spend your dollars (or euros, or yen) on:

Stuff which makes your life measurably better. And stuff which makes you and your employees lastingly happier.

Everything else is money down the drain. And regardless how well you’re funded — wasting money is a cardinal sin for a startup.

So go ahead and order those awesome chairs and the better laptops for your engineers. And up your nerf gun arsenal…
