3 week series — 21 Days of Prayer

Starting in Exodus 17:8–15, while the people of Israel were wondering through the wilderness, their leader Moses, was leading these people to Canaan (back to their homeland). They were supposed to be faithful in God, and trust that he would protect the, but they experienced fear. Soon, the warriors of Amalek (true savages), attacked them.

Up until this point, God has fought all the battles for Israel. This is the first time God decided he was going to fight the battle through them instead of for them!

Moses commanded Joshua, “choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses commanded, and Moses, Aaron and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. As long as Moses held up the staff, the Israelites had the advantage! They has spiritual momentum on their side!

But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. Moses’ arms became so tired he could no longer hold it up.. So, Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. As he sat, Aaron and Hur stood on each side and helped Moses hold his hands up. His hands held steady until sunset and defeated the Amalekites! Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi, which means “ The Lord is my banner”!

Engage in the battle

Spiritual war is happening. Ephesians 6:12 — For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

In the year 2000, 70% of Americans said they belonged to a spiritual body. In 2021, it has dropped to 47%... The lowest in American History. What is driving this? Family decline. Satan is winning the spiritual war.

How do we engage in the battle? Support the mission! We cant win the battle by ourselves! We need God!

Say, “God, show me how I can make a difference. God, wherever there is a need, I am available. Use me to help make a difference! God, count me in! Use me!”

It is amazing what God can do through us. Up until this battle, God fought the battles for Israel. It is now our turn, just like Moses and his followers! When we hold up the rod of God (aka, the power of prayer), anything is possible. Winning is possible! Hold up the spirit! Push back the enemy! A person standing alone can be attacked, defeated, but two can stand back to back and conquer. There is strength in numbers!

How will you support the mission?
