Fall is upon us, which means the Armenian countryside is a stunning kaleidoscope of color! This is especially true for Dilijan National Park, known for its lush forests, healing mineral springs, medieval monasteries, and hiking trails. In fact, hiking infrastructure in Dilijan is among the most developed in Armenia — the park is home to over 150km (93mi) of trails.

Needless to say, it’s a beautiful time of year to go hiking in Dilijan. While there, consider staying the night to take in the town’s local charm. Here are 5 guest houses and hotels of different price points we recommend you stay in while in Dilijan.

Artsiv Guesthouse

Address: 19 Usanoghakan Street

Arguably the most eclectic place to stay in Dilijan, Artsiv Guesthouse will transport you to another world. Each room at Artsiv has its own distinct character, and the common spaces, both inside and out, are like living museums of handmade crafts and gadgets. While there, you can enjoy your host Susanna’s delicious homemade food, or make use of the guest kitchen. But know that she will always invite you to have dinner with her family (they live on the second floor). Learn more and contact Susanna to book a stay with our free mobile app!

Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex

Address: Sharambeyan Street

It doesn’t get more authentic than the Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex, located in the recently restored historic district of Dilijan. In addition to comfortable suites, large and medium-sized guest rooms decorated with local handicrafts and artwork, in the historic district right outside your room, you’ll find a wood workshop, ceramic workshop, art gallery, mineral and silver shop, folk museum, and an Armenian restaurant operated by Tufenkian. Good luck actually leaving town to go on hikes while staying here! Use our free app to contact the front desk to book your stay, and plan your hiking adventure in Dilijan.

Takht House

Address: House #14, 3rd Alley, Ordjonikidze Street

Built by one of the original founders of Dilijan as a family home, Takht House is located near the town center and within the national park’s boundary. There’s lots of space to stretch out on the property, which comes equipped with hammocks, a grill and fire pit, a swing set, and other outdoor amenities. Inside, you’re free to make use of the kitchen, large dining room for communal meals, a tennis table, and elliptical. We don’t think you’ll be making much use of the elliptical though with our free app showing you the way on nearby hiking trails.

Daravand Hotel

Address: 46 Abovyan Street

Located above a small stream with views of Dilijan’s many surrounding ranges, Daravand is a favorite among local travelers. You can select from double and single rooms with either ensuite or private external bathrooms, or cozy up in the cottage located on the property. Either way, Daravand’s inviting interior will have you feeling warm and at home. You can have a drink at the bar, enjoy a game of pool, or curl up with a book by the fireplace while there. Outside, if the weather permits, you’ll understand locals’ love for woodwork on the patio made entirely of wood and decorated with woodcraft. Daravand even has a tonir, a local oven similar to a tandoori where you can cook pretty much anything, and a space designated as the “drinking corner.” Cheers! Don’t drink and hike though!

Cozy House Dilijan

Address: 126 Kamo Street

No, this isn’t a set from The Lord Of The Rings film franchise. Cozy House Dilijan is one of the newest guest houses to open its doors in Dilijan, and it’s made quite a stir in Armenia as a unique place to stay in Dilijan. Family owned and operated, Cozy House offers all the standard amenities you’d expect from a hotel, with a twist straight out of a fantasy storybook. You can choose from 6 different private cottages (1–2 bedrooms each) that can accommodate up to 4 people with double, king or bunk beds. Inside you’ll find that each cottage has its own unique design, and that everything has been created with great attention to detail. Get in touch with the front desk using our free hiking app, and while you’re there check out some nearby trails you can explore while in Dilijan!

BONUS: Parz Lich Rest Area

Address: Parz Lake

For those looking to spend the night out in nature while in Dilijan, the Parz Lich Rest Area is the perfect place to get immersed in the forest while staying close to town. This rest area is located near the shore of Lake Parz, a popular tourist destination in the summer months and now while the trees are bursting with fall colors. Accommodations include wood cabins for up to 4 people, plus an area for tents (you have to bring your own tent though — you can rent one in Dilijan). There’s a restaurant and adventure park near the lake, and the Ararat Hotel operates different tours and activities in the area.

Dilijan is the perfect place to experience everything Armenia has to offer hikers this time of year: beautiful trails, lush forests, local hospitality, and unique culture. Our website and free hiking app were designed to make discovering Armenia easy and fun. Start creating your fall bucket list!
