HIPBAR JOINS THE NEW GLOBAL ALLIANCE TO PROMOTE THE RESPONSIBLE SALE AND DELIVERY OF ALCOHOL ONLINE
2021 is off to a great start! On Jan 29, 2021 HipBar, India’s first drinks home delivery company is proud to join the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) global coalition to develop and enhance safeguards to prevent the online sale and delivery of drinks containing alcohol to minors and to reduce harmful drinking among adults.
It is the first and only Indian company to join this alliance.
The International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing harmful drinking worldwide and promoting understanding of responsible drinking, among those who choose to drink. IARD is supported by companies from all sectors of the regulated alcohol industry — beer, wine, and spirits — in their common purpose of being part of the solution to reduce the harmful use of alcohol. IARD’s twelve member companies are commercially active in more than 100 countries and have a multi-stakeholder approach, including coordinating on the subject with World Health Organization (WHO) and other UN agencies.
HipBar is keen to shape the evolution of global standards and adopt it for the Indian market. Commenting on this ground-breaking announcement, HipBar CEO Prasanna Natarajan said “As a country with the hangover of colonial laws on the one hand and a rapidly growing population entering the legal drinking age on the other, we at HipBar believe that technology-assisted home delivery of alcoholic beverages with adequate checks and balances can foster responsible consumption. The online home delivery channel can be used to introduce digital ID checks, implement digital quotas, and disseminate public health messaging. As a pioneer in this space, we are a natural partner for IARD’s effort to evolve the global standards and we are grateful for their invitation to join this alliance.”
