Everyone involved in hiring is after one thing: the perfect hire. But what (or who) exactly is that? For some employers it’s the candidate with the best CV. For others it’s the person who shines brightest in the interview or the one hungriest to succeed. That’s the problem — the perfect hire is different for each company and every position. It changes with every addition to your team and every development in your sector. But no matter what the perfect hire is, we can say for certain that it will always be the result of a lot of hard work and research on your part.

Even if you’re the hottest company in town, it’s no longer enough to just throw a job listing out there and hope that the most talented people apply. Copying approaches that have worked in the past won’t cut it either. The stakes are too high and it’s too much of a risk to simply hope for the best — after all, the future of your company depends on the successful integration and progress of each person you hire. Instead of hiring and hoping, you’ve got to get involved and improve. The secret to doing this is changing the way you hire from reactive to active.

Talented people want employers who share their goals, values and treat them like equals. The trust of these people has to be earned, not taken for granted. But if you let them into your world, show them the people they’ll be working with and what they’ll be working towards in the future, then the chances of you connecting with the right person are much, much bigger.

That’s what these five playbooks are here for — to help you make a perfect hire each and every time. By the way, it’s a playbook, not a guidebook, because we believe the best way to hire is to do it as team. Like sport, hiring is a lot of hard work, but it can also be a lot of fun — especially when you win.

Keep up the good work!
