Georgia has fought for its culture and independence since its Ancient conception, and geography is to blame for its tumultuous history. Surrounded by superpowers from all sides, Georgia was in constant threat of absorbent during the vast majority of its history. As a matter of fact, the struggle has not ended for the small state, as Georgians of today are still in conflict with the superpowers of the age. Despite its inherent disadvantages, Georgia has survived and stemmed the tides of history into their favor time and time again.

Born Between Empires

Ancient Georgia was dominated by two kingdoms, the Colchis and the Iberians. The Iberian Kingdom under the great king Mirian II expanded the Kingdom and became one of the first countries to adopt Christianity in 327 C.E. This early age of independence laid the foundations for Georgian Culture, but it was not to last as the superpowers of the Ancient World, Rome and Parthian Persia, brought their endless warring over the small country.

The constant back and forth between the Romans and Parthians would be inherited by the Eastern Romans and Sassanids. Although its territories were slowly diminishing, the Kingdom managed to play both sides and survive for two more…
