Merrie Monarch Poster Thumbnails

For the current project, I’m planning on creating a poster to promote the Merrie Monarch festival using presence as a key value. Below are some thumbnail sketches of potential creative directions. These directions vary in their core subject matter. Options for core subject matter include a hula dancer, a lei, and a pahu drum.

Regardless of which subject I choose, I’m thinking of executing each of them in a flat and color blocked style. A key artist I’m looking to for inspiration is Pegge Hopper.
