A Brief History of Industrial and Interaction Design:

Target Audience: Anyone who is interested in the rise of technology

Black People Made America:

Target Audience: Young black men and women

In these two articles/readings, the voices and tons are very different because of the subject matter that they are talking about. In “A Brief History of Industrial and Interaction Design” the ton is very straight forward about how industrial design and investing are a glorious field that leads to great business. It brings in examples, such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and other large company builders in the Silicon Valley industry. On the other hand, “Black People Made America”, is a harsher tone because it is more of an emotional expression of how black people were suppressed and not allowed to invent. Worse, some of the greatest creations and ingestions that are stilled used today were stolen by the white slave owners. I belie that one of the most telling lines in the tons for this reading was “the only thing the white people invented was the patent process.” This is a statement of anger and frustration.

After reflecting more, these two articles are very hard to compare because they are so different. On one hand, I want to believe the shining light over the investing and industrial design world that the first reading showcase. On the other hand, it is very hard to ignore the facts in the second article. I think that moving forward in the world of industrial design, both worlds can exist. I think it is possible to make inventing this glorious process like the first article mentions, while also taking into consideration equality and recognition like the second article expresses.
