I love it! Donald Trump, Jr. must go to jail
You’re getting sent up, kid
Oh, the saga of Don Trump. Which Don? The one that was born on third base and thinks he hit a home run or the one that thinks he’s entitled to third base before he even has a first date?
As it turns out, there’s not much difference between the two anymore. Certainly not on this topic, which the Trump administration is trying to distance itself from as it now is clear that the now-president’s son and namesake was actively trying to collude with Russian influence peddlers to hand his father the election as far back as June 2016.
That’s bad, Don. You colluded with an enemy foreign government to advance your own personal agenda at the expense of the interests of the United States of America. You’re a traitor caught in a web of lies. And you must go to jail.
It’s bad, kid
You know it’s bad when … Fox News hosts — the don’t-care-who-you-are-or-what-you-do-as-long-as-you’re-Republican-water-carriers — are decrying your latest round of blatant, criminal lies.
Shepard Smith: “Why all of these lies? Lie after lie after lie? … The deception, Chris, is mind-boggling … why are we getting told all these lies?”
Chris Wallace: “You know, I don’t know what to say.”
Chris Wallace may not know what to say, but one person does: Donald Trump, Jr. Let him tell us how it is:
Donald Trump Jr. eagerly accepted help from what was described to him as a Russian government effort to aid his father…www.telegraph.co.uk
That’s right, the full email exchange. If this is TL;DR for you, then here’s the gist:
What? I didn’t know anything.
First, Donny boy told us he had a meeting invitation back in June 2016. He claims to have not known who it was with nor what it was about, but he set up the meeting in Trump Tower. Using all of that non-information, Don Jr. enlisted the participation of the two other most senior Trump campaign advisers, Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort. Both senior advisers agreed to attend the meeting and actually participated in the meeting.
You know — the meeting that Don Jr. didn’t know who it was with nor what it was about. But the three bigwigs all willingly joined in on it.
Here is his statement to the New York Times on July 8, 2017:
It was a short introductory meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to stop by. We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow up. I was asked to attend the meeting by an acquaintance, but was not told the name of the person I would be meeting with beforehand.
Is he lying? Again, don’t rely on me. Don Jr. will expressly prove that he lied … by sharing the proof with the world via Twitter (The apple clearly does not fall far from the tree in the Trump orchard.)
Of course, Don Jr. seems like an unreliable witness, so let’s hear from someone else. Here’s Don Jr.’s lawyer, Alan Futerfas, reinforcing Don Jr.’s lack of knowledge of what the “nothing came of it” meeting was about:
“Don Jr. had no knowledge as to what specific information, if any, would be discussed. … The meeting lasted about 20–30 minutes, and nothing came of it.”
And now Don Jr. himself, in the initial email exchange with Trump business associate Ron Goldstone, who also happens to be an intermediary for Azerbaijani singer-songwriter and businessman Emin Agalarov, the son of Putin-associated Russian-Azerbaijani oligarch Aras Agalarov:
(emphasis mine) In a June 2016 email exchange, Ron Goldstone told Donald Trump Jr. there was “ultra sensitive” information which was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
Donald Trump Jr. replied: “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”
So, clearly, the Trump camp lied from the outset and expressed false outrage over being accused of colluding with — not just Russians, but the Russian government — in efforts to support Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency.
The nothing burger
Their defense now is forget that we lied about it. We tried to collude, but we weren’t able to.
For you Trump apologists out there, which version of Trump reality do you prefer? The one where they seem like clueless bumblers or the one where they appear to be single-mindedly corrupt, self-interested, America-raping opportunists?
Donald Trump Jr. on behalf of his now president father, openly sought the assistance of an enemy foreign government, which he admits to after having been caught lying about it.
Take a bite of that nothing burger. The Trumps were never on the side of America. The Trumps are only for the Trumps … and their Russian puppet-masters.
Unless this is the new normal, Donald Trump Jr. must go to jail.
