A new Universe makes its way into the Star Atlas Showroom
These are incredible days for all Star Atlas fans. With the new version of the Showroom, we can finally pilot all the ships that the community admires so much. Hours can literally fly as we test the interaction and movement of the ships in different scenarios.
Since they released this new version, my inner USTUR explorer vein has been activated, and I’ve found myself searching every corner of every scenario, looking for new secrets and clues about what is to come.
Central Showroom Building
The first place we arrived at is this terminal. We encounter for the first time a fully functional transport that allows us to move between the entrance of the Showroom and a massive station inside the mountain, a place that apparently connects different areas.
The central building of the Showroom hasn’t changed much. There are noticeable small details like interaction with the elevator, ambient sounds, and some variations in the decoration, but I’m really eager to try new interactions and options within the building itself. Something like viewing the SAGE map with all my ships and being able to control them from one of the massive screens, having access to community videos from any of the screens while sitting at the bar enjoying a refreshing drink, interacting with my ship from a customization panel, these are things I would love to see, but we still have to wait a little longer. We still can’t interact with any panel beyond those that existed in the previous version, but we do have something new within one of them, the Star Atlas Marketplace!!!
Marketplace in Unreal Engine 5
The Marketplace is perhaps the most significant addition to this release despite not drawing much attention. The maturity shown by this functionality within Unreal Engine 5 demonstrates that the Star Atlas team is ready to implement real-time blockchain mechanics that can affect gameplay. I can’t imagine how awesome it will be to find hidden objects and obtain the first rewards in the form of NFTs or in-game tokens in real-time while interacting with the blockchain logic of the entire ecosystem.
Impressive quality in the ships
Of course, I couldn’t talk about the Showroom without mentioning what the Star Atlas gaming community desires the most, the ships. The nearly finished models we will find are: Opal Jet, Fimbul Lowbie, Fimbul Airbike, Pearce X6, Fimbul ECOS Unibomba, Floydliner, and the Pearce X4. These ships are a feast for the eyes and an inspiration for the fans.
If you want to know the quality level in detail, you just have to watch this video of the X6. It’s really incredible how the team is working on the models in Unreal Engine 5 to customize each of them according to standards by each manufacturer within the game itself.
Configuration V2 and Physics
It is not only in the graphic section where we have updates. With the news that all ships can be piloted, even if most of them are not finished, we can see that the physics of each ship has also been worked on according to their specifications. We will find the larger ships to be heavier and slower, but even among ships of the same class, we will feel differences in maneuverability.
The new V2 configuration of the ships, which will likely be revealed soon by the team, is already present in this version of the Showroom. The size and quantity of weapons are among the aspects that reveal these changes, although missile bays and turrets have not been implemented for larger ships.
The start of large space battles is getting closer, but we shouldn’t expect significant PvP gameplay until version 3.0. However, we can already test our ships on the new race track today, this is without a doubt the most important addition to the Showroom map in this new version.
Race Track
This new addition is not a surprise for those who closely follow the project. This type of gameplay is something the community has been asking for a long time. Besides being a relatively straightforward way to implement playable mechanics and create a competitive environment, races allow the team to experiment with different forms of flight simulation to achieve the most addictive experience possible.
In this release, we won’t be able to compete against other players for the first place yet, but we will have a leaderboard based on time. The race track currently provides an opportunity for us to adapt to what lies ahead and gain a competitive advantage when everything starts to take shape.
Exploring new Maps
Coming soon we will explore the secrets of each of the new experimental maps, maybe we will find some surprises or clues of what is to come. The wonderful path of building the metaverse that we all want is just beginning, the Universe of Star Atlas makes its way through the dreams of its community. See you soon explorers, area 39 sure has some surprises for us.
