Everything We Know About REC So Far

Hello to all the explorers of the metaverse, I hope you are ready for what lies ahead. If you think Star Atlas has changed a lot since resources stopped being sold infinitely by the DAO, you will surely be overwhelmed by the upcoming release. SAGE:REC is imminent, and with it comes the foundational profession of the entire economy within the metaverse, mining.

Let’s explore the modules that make up REC (Resource, Extraction, and Crafting), their details, and how we can better prepare ourselves to face the changes within the economy of Star Atlas.

Movement System

We have already experienced firsthand with EV (Escape Velocity) how a movement system directly on the blockchain works. The main difference between EV and REC lies in the scale. While in Escape Velocity we moved only between sectors, in the new version of SAGE, we will have a higher layer of depth that will allow us to move within these sectors where we will find systems, starbases, mineable asteroids, and perhaps some surprises.

In the case of REC, we won’t have to execute a transaction for every movement, only between sectors, so we can smoothly experience the exploration within each area.

The Transport of Assets within REC

Assets within SAGE will have a location on the blockchain. All these resources or components that are crafted can be claimed to our wallet or sold on the market, but first, we will need to transport them to the Central Space Station of our faction.

The speed of our ships will influence the time we need to dedicate to this transportation. This action will also consume fuel, limiting the range of smaller fleets. We will see a noticeable advantage in larger ships or those with modules specialized in autonomy or increased cargo capacity.

For the first time, we will have a transportation mechanic within the metaverse, although in this initial version, we won’t be able to hire the services of another player to assist us with the goods’ transportation. We will depend entirely on the capabilities of our fleets.

Better Details within the Map

As we could observe in previous images shared by the team during the month of March, the details of the map are completely different when we move within a sector.

According to the CEO of Star Atlas himself, this release will be far superior in graphical quality to EV in all aspects of the map, objects, and assets that are depicted.

Star Atlas Account(Player Profile)

Interiors of the Arc

Previously, we discussed the importance of this key component within the Star Atlas ecosystem. The Player Profile or Star Atlas Account, as the team decided to name it, is the foundation that integrates each of the modules with the player’s progress.

This profile helps reduce the friction that a fully blockchain game like Star Atlas presents to Web 2 users, making it easier to manage their accounts and wallet addresses. It allows for granting special permissions to different wallets and facilitates interactions with modules like SAGE, avoiding the need to approve each transaction without the requirement of a Burner Wallet.

Although in this release, we won’t have player progress enabled through the accumulation of experience points or leveling up, we will be able to participate in Star Atlas for the first time with our official profiles as members of a DAC within a faction in the metaverse.

Fleet Management

Administration of Inventory (SAGE)

Fleet management is the module that allows us to use our NFT ships with their unique characteristics for the first time. It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for to launch our fleets and explore the universe of Star Atlas.

It appears that this will be one of the first mechanics we interact with when we embark on our journey in SAGE. Once we import our ships, we can start exploring from our Central Space Station and venture far beyond the confines of our faction, depending on the specifications of our fleet. We won’t be able to interact with non-allied Space Stations, so we’ll have to manage our resources carefully when exploring distant areas.

Extraction System

Armstrong IMP Mining Asteroids

Mining is the foundation of the economy in Star Atlas. Without the valuable resources extracted from this task, it’s not possible to maintain operational fleets or expand and progress a faction within this universe. Following the principle that every action has a cost, and that this action may or may not generate profits, the economy of Star Atlas becomes a simulation of the real economy within an infinite metaverse.

In its first version, the Extraction System allows us to use our ships to extract resources from asteroids. Extraction from planets using Claim Stakes will not be enabled in this initial release. As a preparation for the launch of this new playable module, ATMTA has released the highly anticipated mining ships with a 50% discount! These ships are from the renowned manufacturer Armstrong.

Currently, there are three models of these mining ships: the Small IMP Tip, the Medium IMP Tap, and the Capital IMP. These ships will have an advantage in resource extraction and can immediately function in the Faction Fleet and Faction Claims programs, with the ability to generate ATLAS or R4 resources as needed. These are the first fully self-sustainable ships and will play a significant role in upcoming releases starting with the launch of REC.

The main difference between a mining ship and a ship of any other specialty in terms of asteroid mining lies in the extraction method. Non-mining ships need to use ammunition to extract resources, while mining ships extract them solely using the advantages of their components. On the other hand, mining ships do not have any weapons for defense but can peacefully mine during this initial stage where combat is not yet implemented.

Crafting System

Interiors of the Arc

This is perhaps the most interesting module that SAGE:REC has prepared for players within Star Atlas. We will be able to use all the resources we mine from asteroids to craft different components, in addition to the familiar R4 resources.

Initially, it was mentioned that we would have 20 resources for crafting, known as R20. However, this information has been corrected in recent discussions with the team. Initially, we will have a smaller number of resources, and it will gradually increase along with the crafting tree.

We still don’t know the specific components we will be able to craft, but we know that they will have two main purposes. Firstly, we can compete on a leaderboard to earn rewards in tokens and ships. Secondly, we can simply accumulate them to be used in future releases where they will have utility within the game as part of the upgrade tree.

With the introduction of crafted components into the market in REC, the economic experiment for the success of the future economy within Star Atlas will begin.
