The two titanic pirate guilds from the MUD and USTUR factions now appear to be fated for conflict. Skull & Bones released their announcement to the Star Atlas community through the Hologram in this video.

“This is a message from Skull and Bones, rulers of the far corners of the high risk zone. With a message to all land lovers. We have marked the newly formed guardians of the galaxy with the black spot as well as their allies. Dark matter war is our first language. Diplomacy is a foreign tongue. Those who share our values of strength, honor, and loyalty shall be given a chance to prove themselves.

The members of Dark Matter are inconsistent in their word and ideologies, and therefore our crew have deemed them unworthy of our alliance and shall be annihilated. Let it be known. Any member of these guilds shall be shown no quarter in the field of battle and will be met with swift and decisive Fury.

We will show no mercy to those who fly their flags. You have been warned. Prepare for war.”

Historical Tensions Boil Over Into Conflict

The pirate guilds of Star Atlas have always held an uneasy truce amongst themselves. Akin to an Honor Amongst Thieves code, the pirate guilds have tentatively understood that a pirate’s life transcends that of factions.

However, uneasy alliances have given way to heated words and barbed exchanges, culminating in a declaration of war between two of Star Atlas’s pirate guilds.

The tension between Dark Matter and S&B goes back to the early days of Star Atlas, although their conflicts often ended with a tense trading of insults.

This week, however, a devilish verbal exchange between 13omb3r, Founder of S&B, and Kalros, a member of Guardians of the Galaxy ultimately cascaded into war declarations.

Per S&B accounts, Kalros incited open verbal critiques against S&B members to which 13omb3r, self admittedly, returned with pointed demeanor. The hours long exchange ended with both Kalros and Signal being marked by S&B’s Black Spot — a formal designation of “impending doom” against a player.

Dark Matter Ends Alliance Following Terse Exchange

Shortly following the incident, Dark Matter’s guild leader Chaldan formally ended their alliance with S&B in this message:

“In view of recent interactions involving S&B, DARK and GOTG and S&B marking one of the council members of DARK as an enemy, Dark Matter wants to make it clear that any past alliance between S&B and DARK is now over”.

In turn, Skull & Bones promptly declared war on their former allies.

Community Questions War Commitments

Without any type of playable game, many members of the Star Atlas community were quick to point out that any kind of war action was impossible.

However, for those that understand the nature of conflict, war truly begins well before any forces are committed to the field of battle. The histories of the conflicts in EVE Online, chronicled in Empires of Eve, detail how the first EVE wars were rooted in the early days of the community before any game was developed.

It would appear that history is fated to repeat itself with conflict arising ahead of the game. With conflict on the horizon, a question remains. Will this conflict be contained by its current participants? Or will this pirate war consume the entire Star Atlas galaxy as guilds and factions rush to support their side?
