Main Features of Ships

If you want to better understand how ships are divided by utility and capacity, you can see below the simplest way to interpret each of their characteristics.

Spec

Specialization within all the main characteristics is the first thing we must take into account when considering the purchase of one of the ships in the catalog. From a player’s point of view, we know that every RPG has classes, which are simply different ways of experiencing the game but have a significant impact on our enjoyment. Depending on the role you want to take on, whether passive or aggressive, if you prefer to be more involved in the basic economic aspect, such as transportation or mining, rather than battles with their possible rewards but also risks, especially in the case of a blockchain-based metaverse like Star Atlas, where every consequence has a cost or reward in real life. It doesn’t matter what budget you have, if you want to embark on your journey in this fascinating Universe, you must first understand what role you want to play in it.

Make

In most RPG games, the manufacturer of a particular weapon or accessory doesn’t matter much, but that’s not the case within Star Atlas. As you may have noticed if you have already chosen a faction within the metaverse and decided to embark on this long journey, each account belongs to a certain region of Galia. When we choose to belong to one faction or another, we are not only choosing our race or type of avatar we want in the future, but also choosing a location.

Resources are not infinite within Galia and our position determines the abundance or scarcity of many of them, as well as the affinity with certain manufacturers. The three lines aligned with each faction are Pearce, Vzus, and Busan, these are the main manufacturers for MUD, USTUR, and ONI respectively. From this hierarchy, we can find mixed manufacturers, where two factions participate in their construction. Let’s take a closer look at each relationship between manufacturer and faction:

Faction — Manufacturer Relationship(Credit: Oni Merchant, Star Atlas official document reference)

Despite appearing complex, we only need to understand several basic principles:

  • No matter which faction we belong to, we can use any ship.
  • Manufacturers directly aligned with the faction allow for more efficient specialization of our fleets.
  • Each manufacturer has its advantages and disadvantages.
  • To manufacture ship components and modules, the most common resources according to their faction alignment will be required, making it relatively difficult to obtain the necessary resources for manufacturing lines that are far from your faction.

Class

In the Star Atlas metaverse, size matters. The capacity of a ship in many aspects is determined by the modules and components it supports according to its slots, and the class determines the size of these slots, making it one of the most noticeable characteristics to evaluate each ship in the marketplace. There is a basic principle that everyone should understand to find the best deal on these assets: efficiency and usefulness depend entirely on size, no matter how good a ship is, it can never surpass a larger one, at least not within those currently available in the marketplace, launched during GAO 1 or GAO 2. These include everything, components, modules, and crew, as they are first-generation. Once the Star Atlas team releases the first customization and upgrade modules, we may see a significant change in the current balance.
