Updated post-launch on Aprl 27th with the new loot table and scanning mechanics!

What is Escape Velocity?

Escape Velocity is the first in a series of modules in the SAGE product line from Star Atlas. The purpose of Escape Velocity is to test the mass on-chain movement of thousands of player ships on a single map.

Every ship movement represents an on-chain transaction on the Solana blockchain. To incentivize as many participants as possible, Star Atlas if offering over $600K in player rewards.

What You Need to Play

You Will Need:

  • A Solana wallet (we recommend Phantom)
  • Some $SOL
  • At least 1,000 $ATLAS

Spawning a ship will cost you 1,000 ATLAS. This ship will be the Fimbul Lowbie and is the only ship available. Every person gets the same type of ship and there are no differences between individual ships. You can spawn additional ships to scan with for 1,000 ATLAS each. You will get all your ATLAS back when you despawn each ship.

How to Play

Each of your ships have three actions then can take in real time. Scanning and Movement each have individual ship cool down timers. There is an undisclosed global timer for scanning across all your ships.

Scanning — Each of your ships will be able to scan individually for loot with a 30 second timer for each ship. There is a maximum cap of 15 scans in 30 seconds for all your ships to prevent spamming.

Movement — Ships can move to another sector that is within their warp range. Ships do not have to move to adjacent sectors.

Observe — Takes you to a special view where you can look around the system that you are in.

Loot Table

There was a change in the Loot Table just prior to Escape Velocity’s launch. The Copper tier probability of spawning loot was greatly increased, however, at the cost of the probability of higher tiers spawning.

Additionally the amount of ATLAS dropped in the Copper tier was reduced from 100 ATLAS to 10 ATLAS

Loot Mechanics

  • Loot spawns in a fixed quantity on the map.
  • Loot spawns to the maximum capacity every minute.
  • Loot randomly spawns across the map.
  • A single loot drop can have multiple cannisters to claim.
  • Total amount of loot on the map at any given time is also capped.
  • Loot probability is based on spawning and item in that category, not the chance of player encountering the item

General Strategy

The player goal of Escape Velocity is to find as much loot as possible. Here are some general tips:

  • The more ships you have the more you can scan. Since there is a global cap of 15 scans per 30 seconds, we recommend an initial target of 10–15 ships that you can manage.
  • Escape Velocity has a player heat map showing the density of players in an area. The more players in an area, the more competition in that sector for loot. But….
  • Play with friends! You can divide and conquer and split the rewards. You can also cover more ground and find drops that multiple people can claim at once.
  • More players means more loot! This might seem counterintuitive but since loot is on a global refresh timer and resets to its maximum every minute, that means the more loot that is picked up every minute, the more loot that is randomly spawned across the map, up to the global cap.
  • Lastly, have fun! This is the very first SAGE gameplay module that is released.

Happy Hunting!
