It may seem like an oddly specific subject, but our family went on a bunny chapter book reading kick a few years ago, and we found some of our favorite books fell into this bunny theme. Find them below, in no particular order, because we love them all.

#1 The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
This book is about a porcelain rabbit. It is about love, pain, and how love is worth the pain. It is heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. Ever since I finished reading it, I couldn’t wait to read it again.

#2 Watership Down by Richard Adams
I will admit I had a lot more fun reading this book aloud to my kids than I had when reading it in high school. I guess some books are just better shared aloud together. I am always amazed at how young a child can really grasp and love a more complicated story when it is read aloud to them. My kids were ages 5–12 when I read this aloud. The five and six-year-olds did not stick around for the story, but 8, 9, 10 and 12-year-olds loved it.

#3 The Green Ember by S.D. Smith
Bunnies wielding swords. This is an action-packed epic tale. After reading this we couldn’t get enough of these brave yet broken sword-wielding bunnies searching for freedom from the attacks of the enemy. So, we read S.D. Smith’s other available titles. Which bring our list to a close.

#4 Ember Falls by S.D. Smith

#5 The Black Star of Kingston by S.D. Smith
A shorter book, this prequel fills in some of the backstory to the Green Ember epic.

So what are we reading this spring?

I just heard Ember Rising by S.D. Smith has been released. It was a true Amazon-Prime emergency and our only problem will be putting it down to take care of life. (I know this because of our past struggles to stop reading bunny books when it was time to do other things.)

Did I leave out any amazing bunny books from this list? Please share your bunny story love in the comments!
