Can the Truth Ever Be Universal or Trustworthy?
Are we speak from a need to share or a need to be right.
Mahatma Gandhi said the following about truth…
‘Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the Truth, for being correct, for being you. Never apologize for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you’re right and you know it, speak your mind. Even if you are a minority of one, the Truth is still the Truth.’
But it is?
Is truth always truth, can things really be that simple? I don’t think so, if the last year or so has taught us anything it is that the nature of truth is a fluid, flexible, and a completely subjective thing.
Standing up (literally or figuratively) and voicing something real and important to you is a powerful experience. In my work facilitating circles with women, it is a humbling and inspiring thing to watch someone speaking out for themselves and their beliefs. It takes a moment of trust in oneself, and awareness that is usually hard-won, and the subtle shifts in their bodies afterward are noticeable. Speaking your truth in this way is something I will always advocate.
