The Honest Perspective Weekly Prompt — 6th- 12th October
Facing the blank page together
Whether the ideas have slowed to a trickle or you’re just feeling curious and in the mood for a little reflection. Our weekly prompt is an invitation to ruminate on an idea and see what arises.
Be it poetry or prose you’d like to submit to us, or a journal entry for your eyes only, take a moment to pause at some point during your week and set your pen free.
There’s something about hitting 40 that shifts the ground beneath you. For me, it wasn’t a dramatic crisis or even a sudden awareness of age, but a quieter reckoning. My eyes began to betray me before the rest of my body did — a soft blur at close range, a reluctance to focus on the tiny details I once strained to hold. At first, it felt like a nuisance, but then I wondered: maybe this is the lesson. Maybe midlife invites us to stop obsessing over the minutiae and instead step back to see the bigger picture.
Forty has brought with it a clarity I didn’t expect — not in my vision, but in my outlook. I find myself less concerned with ticking off lists that once felt urgent and more drawn to the questions that will shape the legacy I leave behind. What will matter in the long run? What stories, connections, and choices will outlive me?
