The Honest Perspective Weekly Prompt — December 2nd — 8th
Let’s delve under the surface
In conversation this week I heard this time of year referred to as the season of the shadow… a bit dramatic perhaps but it spoke to me.
As the days grow shorter and the nights stretch their reach, we race toward the moment of the winter solstice and the year’s darkest season — a time that can feel heavy or inviting, depending on how we choose to greet it.
Does the dark itself speak to you?
Does it feel like an unwelcome visitor, creeping in earlier every evening, stealing your time? Or is it an old friend, arriving with permission for you to slow down, to retreat into quiet?
Do you resist the pull inward, clinging to the remnants of light, or do you lean into the quiet, finding solace in its stillness?
I often find myself longing for a time in which the reality of my life matches my own personal needs. I’m a single mother of 4, three of whom are home educated. So long slow days of quiet and stillness, with candlelight, journalling and the delicious decadence of an uninterrupted book can seem very far away. And it makes me wonder how the seasons of your lives influence our approach to this time?
