Personalisation and going the extra mile is key to this independent hotel.

Known for its stunning heritage-listed building and prime location on a tree lined street in Melbourne’s city centre, Treasury on Collins is an apartment hotel with a unique feel. The interiors are exceptionally expansive and well designed and guests have access to all the mod-cons and home comforts they could ask for — including free access to Netflix (of which the hotel was the first to offer this perk in Australia!)

But it’s not just the historically imposing façade and luxury amenities that makes this independent hotel so special — behind the scenes is a team of extremely dedicated and passionate staff who are going the extra mile to make guests feel at home and appreciated. Combining creativity, personalisation and tuning into the city’s vibrant events calendar is one of the ways that Treasury on Collins’ team is doing this.

We find out how its done.

Treasury on Collins tunes into Melbourne’s event scene

For select stand-out events throughout year, you’ll find the lobby of Treasury on Collins transformed, with beautiful tailored displays themed to the city’s large scale event of the moment, from sporting events, festivals, national holidays and more.

“Our most recent display was for Lunar New Year,” Treasury on Collins’ Executive Hotel Manager Amanda Ruffels tells The Hotels Stories. “This was one of my favourite displays, as aside from the dragon we had above the reception desk, we installed lanterns which hung over the lobby and it looked stunning.”

On why they create these displays, Amanda tells us that many of their guests travel to the city purely to attend large scale events so it’s a way to show them they understand and want to engage. She says:

“We create these displays specifically for our guests. Melbourne is well-known for its events and the majority of our customers travel here specifically to attend them. Not only do we want to accommodate them during their stay, but we also want to bring a little bit of the event to them and make them feel more involved in the whole atmosphere.”

Key to this programs success and an overarching theme for Treasury on Collins is personalisation, of which Amanda adds “to provide a special and memorable experience it has to be personalised. What might be special for one guest, could and will be very different to the next.”

To accompany each display, visitors are often complimented with small gifts themed to the event in question with a recent example being personalised Australian Open themed cookies hand crafted specifically from a local cake maker. The cookies were designed as tennis balls and all guests received them in their rooms on arrival throughout the two-week period of the event, alongside a customised Australian Open guide created by the hotel’s marketing team.

“Our guests appreciate and enjoy the displays and gifts. Personalisation and the service to go with it is what will get people raving about your product and it could be the simplest things from providing return guests with their preferred room type to if a guest is celebrating an anniversary or birthday, we surprise them with a bottle of wine.

We have such a wonderful team here at Treasury on Collins and this is what makes us special and able to stand out from the crowd. Every single employee really cares about the hotel and more importantly, our guests.”

So how much hard work goes into putting together such unique displays? Amanda explains that the team has been doing this for over two years so the coordination is now seamless with a little helping hand from a company called Smashing Windows who design, create and install the displays.

We look forward to the team’s next lobby display for the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix coming soon at the end of March!
