What You Knew But Didn’t Say
Reflections on a cloudy day

Once upon a cloudy day
I saw a flash from far away
and as I sat to think on it…
Ah, screw that.
I refuse to be just another
sing-song bullshit happy verse or
rainbow unicorn fart with rhymes
about your future, brighter times.
I choose to ring the honesty bell
and tell you where you find yourselves
on this path from bad to better
half-assed attempt to live together.
You’re fucked.
I know you’d rather hear from me
vapid praise and positivity
kissy, kissy lovelorn quatrains
about how sunshine follows the rain.
But…
Half the people that you know
believe in fairy tales and ghosts.
Conspiracies without foundation
support your most important nations.
You can’t dissuade them of their myths
nor they of yours, you ignorant twits
and so you talk about the climate
as if some deity divines it.
There is no us in this, alas
when every other soul’s an ass
and everyone who’s not like you
is damned, no matter what they do.
So if you came to me to find
some redemption in my rhymes
instead, I have for you just this
hard dose of poetic justice.
Look again…
Those clouds you see from far away
aren’t harbingers of a bright new day
they’re mushroom-shaped with fiery balls
and they’re coming for you, one and all.
A final conflagration sparked
by hatred smoldering in the dark
