The Swedish Startup Gala 2017
L.A has the Hollywood walk of fame, STHLM has the Swedish startup hall of fame Hall of fame. Hollywood honours entertainers, SUP46 awards entrepreneurs.
They both aim at recompensating greatness: someone who made a difference, had an impact in their fields, inspired and gave back to the community.
Every year for the past five years now, the startup hub SUP46 has been hosting the Swedish Startup Gala, shedding light on the people in the ecosystem who did an amazing job that year, growing their business and/or helping the community.
The 2017 edition was last Thursday, and here is what you’ve missed:
Daniel Sonesson, SUP46’s new CEO, had the delicate task to warm up the stage and welcome the 300 + guests gathered in the beautiful ground floor atrium. Difficult role to step in when everyone is enjoying the bar and buffet while catching up with friends and colleagues. But Daniel is a natural, and did it with panache.
Maral Kalajian, Marketing & Communications manager at Watty AB was the Master of Ceremony for the evening. Well used to this role, it is always a pleasure to observe this energetic big hearted workaholic who loves what she does and oozes inspiration and motivation.
She kept the audience on the edge of their, well, shoes, as she called up a few people on stage to give away 5 prizes that night:
Startup Team of the Year: Adfenix (winner), Bokio, Mapillary
Startup Launch of the Year: Doctrin, Fast Travel Games (winner), Sana Labs
Startup Expansion of the Year: Barnebys, Footway, Kry (winner)
Investor of the Year: Anette Nordvall, Erik Byrenius (winner), Jacob Key
Swedish Startup profile of the year : Sebastian Siemiatkowski
As it often is the case in the startup world, the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed, not a dull or stuck-up spoilsport in sight despite the black-tie dress code. But don’t be mistaken, in this world maybe more than anywhere else, recognition is serious business. The beauty of entrepreneurship is also its downside: when you are taking the freedom to turn a vision, a dream, an idea into a product, a service, a business; You also take the lonelier, longer, scarier road.
That is why events like this one and institution like SUP46 are more than just a Gala and an office space: they are well needed support.
Sometimes cheerleaders, sometimes solaces.
