Submission types
Articles and short essays: research (always with Works Cited), and opinion.
Short stories: should be relevant to the journal theme, which changes issue by issue.
Aim and Scope
This journal began as a response to our fundamental concern with current materials available to students — and to others looking for new approaches.
We worry that students are alienated by pretentious academic jargon that does not appear relevant to everyday experience. (Please see “Adapting the Humanities in 2020”).
We are also interested in general opinion pieces, about the present state/future of the humanities.
Please note
· All essays must be no longer than 1500 words (a 6 minute read).
· Must be written clearly with the aim and scope of the journal in mind.
. Criticism and theory should not be unnecessarily jargon-laden.
· This journal is intended for a broad readership. We encourage all of our authors to promote and share their articles on social media.
· If you are enrolled in Medium’s partner program, your essay is eligible to earn money.
· Don’t assume that your readers know the definitions of technical terms.
· Be sure to read the newest call for papers carefully. These will also be posted on the Penn CFP site.
· Please send proposals first before sending full articles.
