The Howard High School Drama Club and Creative Writing Class went to Gordon State College on Nov. 9 to see the college’s production of the Shakespeare play “Twelfth Night, or What You Will.”

Over 20 students from across all grade levels went on the trip. “Twelfth Night, or What You Will” is a play full of love triangles, crossdressing and comedy.

The play had the audience, made up of several other Georgia high schools as well, laughing riotously. To keep the focus of the students, and keep them on time for lunch, the director, Lisa Cesnik-Ferguson, edited the five act play into two.

After the play ended and the audience gave loud applause, the actors sat down for a quick “talk back” session in which they answered questions from the students. After that, the schools were dismissed to the cafeteria where they had a filling lunch.

The Howard group had arrived early enough that morning to enjoy an impromptu, personalized tour of the Fine Arts building given by Ferguson herself, who showed them several art and music classrooms and recording studies, which impressed the students.

“The field trip was amazing,” said senior and Creative Writing student Donnovan Diaz, “from the art displays, to the actual play itself, I don’t think I’ve had a fun field trip like that in in a long time.”
