This week in trailers… CREATIVE CONTROL

John Steinbeck once said something about it being super dark when a light goes off because we like that light and miss that light and now I just jammed my foot into my dresser.

It’s been a while since my last “Trailer of the week” post, not because there haven’t been good ones (case in point, the entire marketing campaign for THE WITCH — kudos A24), but because we’ve been busy at Metal Rabbit. And not the “Ohhh sorry I’m busy this week and don’t have time for that coffee” busy, the “what’s sleep” and “you mean food doesn’t have to start as dehydrated noodles?” busy. But we’re not complaining.

Between Academy Award® campaigns for terrific films, like Matthew Heineman’s wonderfully gripping Best Documentary nominee CARTEL LAND and Todd Hayne’s showcase of incredible talent in CAROL, to awesome first-window releases from The Orchard, like the killer horror anthology SOUTHBOUND, and Lionsgate Premiere’s more-twists-than-the-PCH MISCONDUCT — both opening today in theaters and on demand — we’ve had our hands full.

That said, my trailer pick o’ the week is for CREATIVE CONTROL, the black and white (mostly) sci-fi noir from Benjamin Dickinson. Set in the nearly future Williamsburg, Brooklyn (what’s up N5th street), this refreshingly original and sprightly funny commentary on the absurdity of the modern prepster made a splash at last year’s SXSW when the newly-minted Amazon Studios acquired distribution rights to Dickinson’s second feature.

Partnering with Magnolia on the theatrical release, Amazon has just released the film’s first trailer ahead of it’s March 11 opening. This one was easily my favorite film of the 2015 festival circuit, you’ll want to mark your calendars.
