Once you’ve decided you want to seek out a hypnotist, how do you choose a good one? You don’t want to end up with a practitioner who took a crash course in hypnosis over a weekend and then went into business, that’s for sure. Complicating matters is that Texas does not require a hypnotist to be certified before he or she opens a practice. The good news is that following a few simple guidelines can help you make an informed choice when it comes to improving your life with hypnosis.

A little research in advance can go a long way toward feeling more confident about your choice. Here, the internet is your friend. Check the hypnotist’s website to find out more about him or her. A good website can be a wealth of information. You can find out which areas the practitioner specializes in, if any, and find out more about how the hypnotist works. An excellent website will tell you about the hypnotic process and give you some ideas about how knowledgeable the practitioner is. For example, check out Greater Houston Hypnosis’ What is Hypnosis page.

It’s important to find out about certification. As noted, Texas doesn’t require certification when it comes to running a hypnosis practice. If your hypnotist is certified, it means that he or she has gone to the trouble and expense of getting certification training, and this is a good sign. Board certification is a desirable thing: this means that the practitioner was certified by more than one person.

What are people saying about the hypnotist? Check the testimonials on their website, and check reviews on Google and Yelp. Reviews can tell you more about the practitioner’s style and perhaps what their office is like.

Is hypnosis the only thing the practitioner does? Some practitioners do hypnosis in addition to other methodologies (such as Reiki). A full-time hypnotist does nothing but hypnosis, and thus their clinical experience is, for lack of a better word, undiluted.

Finally, talk to the hypnotist. Ask some questions. A good practitioner will be happy to answer questions and you can get an impression of how he or she will be in a session. Want to find out some more about Greater
