The power of affirmations

Your subconscious is always eavesdropping

Affirmations are anything you say out loud about yourself. So let’s look at that: that means that there are good affirmations and bad affirmations. The best thing about affirmations is that you don’t even have to consciously believe they will come true — your subconscious mind will make them true.
So you don’t want to say bad things out loud about yourself such as: I’m fat, I’m old, I’m ugly, I’m stupid, I’m having a senior moment — that sort of thing. What you do want to do is start saying good things about yourself out loud.

Your brain is a vast collection of neurons and nerve fibers, and these determine many of your characteristics: your likes, dislikes, personality…many, many things. But those neural structures are not set in stone. The neurons can rearrange themselves into new patterns.
Affirmations create neural re-patterning similar to that. Positive re-patterning happens with positive affirmations, and that change is permanent.

The most famous affirmation of all is: “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.” The reason this affirmation is so popular is it really covers everything. Émile Coué created this affirmation as part of his psychotherapy practice where he helped people with positive autosuggestion. Coué’s simple affirmation helped the thousands of patients he treated each year. My favorite affirmation for self esteem is, “ I love myself so much that I am happy, healthy and free.”

These affirmations are great for anyone, but sometimes you want a more specific affirmation. Many people are trying to improve their health around the new year.

Affirmations for Exercise

A great affirmation for exercise is simply “I love to _____.” Fill in the blank with your favorite exercise. Mine is walking. So every day I say my affirmations at least 5 times out loud, and I find that — even without otherwise consciously propelling myself — I walk more and more and enjoy it more, as well. Please feel free to use the above affirmations for yourself and watch your life improve!
