Throughout history, the purpose of education, teaching methods, cultural values, customs, and societal norms have remained constant: to instill a sense of responsibility in future generations, keep them connected to their roots, and provide them with wings of independence. It’s essential to reflect on our heritage and ancestry to shape our future, as a tree draws strength from its roots while reaching toward the sky. Knowing our past is crucial, as a person without knowledge of their history and culture is like a tree without roots. However, implementing this goal has become more complex due to the advent of modern technology and generation gaps.

The older generation’s traditional beliefs unintentionally restrict the younger generation’s freedom of thought. Throughout history, there has always been a divide between different generations regarding their beliefs about life, success, love, and other concepts. And technology has only exacerbated this divide. It has been one of the major factors which have led to the evolution of our methodologies.

Our electronic devices, the internet, and all the social media apps have played a major role in reducing the communication gap between two generations. A great example of this is the time spent during the pandemic When the world came to a standstill and everyone was trapped in their homes, technology played a great role in bringing everyone together. We spent quality time with our families watching movies and shows. Also since during this time, all the offices were shut down, it provided the elders with enough time to dive into technology and learn about it from their children. And as a consequence, our elders became more aware of new trends and somewhere made them more accepting and welcoming towards the thoughts of the newer generation. With the substantial increase in hours spent by the two generations together, the communication barrier between the two uplifted. Children as well as teens could better understand the mindset and thinking of older generations.

Technology has been a great aid in providing freedom to both the younger and older generations. The younger ones reap the benefits of evolving tech as it makes their everyday tasks much easier to complete. This in turn gives them enough free time to pursue their hobbies and learn various skills. Advanced technology has also enabled older adults to maintain their independence and stay connected with their loved ones through social media, video calls, and text messaging. This is particularly important as older adults may hesitate to burden their children with their concerns, which may impact their health and well-being. Smart AI devices and sensors can monitor an individual’s health and well-being, alerting caregivers or family members if any issues arise. In addition, numerous other technological innovations are assisting older adults in maintaining their health and independence.
