Writers — “Building storms and destroying solar systems”

Look at everything nature makes.

From seashells, to pearls, to mountains, to diamonds. Everything nature has ever given us has been the result of ages of applied, focussed, unceasing effort.

Nothing great is made in an instant.

Nature changes the world — so do we. Just as Nature slowly works on her canvas, we, as authors, create change. On the page, and in ourselves.

Can we, as Lajos Egri says nature does, build storms and destroy solar systems? Consider any story that has ever had an impact on you, and how it thundered in your head. Consider any well-written insight that has ever made you wiser, and how a solar system of immaturity slowly began falling apart.

As nature changes the world, so does a writer’s way with words. What if we allow nature to work on us? Exercise the writing muscles. Get the word count down everyday. Tap into our natural reserves and utilise them.

We grow, mature, adopt better habits. Become chiselled into more expert shapes. In a “leisurely way,” in experimenting how to reconstruct words, and in learning the craft of verbal engineering.

In time.
