A brief trail of Indo-Pak rival!

On 26 October 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh signed a standstill agreement, Instrument of Accession, with Indian Dominion to cede the princely state Kashmir to Indian Union; despite a strong opposition from the majority community of the state.

Little did he know that it would seed a seven decade War of Possession that befits the recent realtime "Behind Enemy Lines" escapade!!

The Valley of Kashmir aka Paradise on Earth inhibits a magnificent topography with perennial rivers, lush green alpine, unalloyed glaciers and Jammu- The land of temples hosts the important pilgrimage Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Ladakh - The Moon Land, has been an internationally acclaimed adventure tourist spot.

A Formidable Political History

Under the Instrument of Accession, the Jammu and Kashmir princely state surrendered only three portfolios viz. Defence, External Affairs and Communications to the Dominion of India!
It is the only Indian state that has a separate Constitution - a book of legal entities for effective governance!
Article 370 of Indian Constitution also exemplifies;
*The state has a separate administrative autonomy.
*The state's name or boundary cannot be changed by the Indian Union without the consent of the state's legislature
*The Fundamental Rights is applicable to the state with some exceptions and conditions.
*A National Emergency declared due to internal disturbance will not have effect in the state except with the concurrence of the state government.
*The President has no power to declare financial emergency in Jammu and Kashmir.
*International treaties can be made only with the consent of state legislature;
and many more provisions which the rest 28 states don't get entitled to!

The Recurring Menace of War

Ever since the annexation, J&K has been a locus of security threats due to disputed dynamic demography; with one community dominating Jammu and other occupying Kashmir!

The 1965 and 1999 war etched an immemorable war epoch!

Litigious Procession

The Kashmir Conflict, handled by prominent Indian leaders had only brought their utter dismay.

1949 United Nations Security Council's resolution of Referendum on Kashmir, towhich Nehru was inclined, never happened.

In 1952, N.Gopala Swamy Aiyangar, then Cabinet Minister of Home Affairs offered broker peace; which was resented by Sheikh Abdullah, the 2nd Prime Minister of Kashmir, who had insisted Self-rule Kashmir.

The Delhi Agreement 1952 between Indian and Kashmir representatives later shaped into Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.

 The 2019 transgression caused quite an upheaval when India's Fighter Aircraft Mig 21 crossed LOC, in an attempt of preemptive Self-defence, preceded by a militant attack at Pulwama, the Rice Bowl of Kashmir.
 The Wing Commander of Mig 21 has been released by Pak Government; eventually dismissing all allegations of his espionage; As a "peace gesture", voiced the Pakistan PM.

Way Forward

India, neither wants a nuclear-headed War nor inclined to compromise her sovereignty by ceding Kashmir.
However, the frequent communal clash has also becoming a modus operandi of both communities to claim for separation.

Kashmir's cruching tourism economy due to intermittent security threats, exhausting natural resources, expensive military expenses hint the need for a permanent solution for The Kashmir Conflict.

Perhaps, The Plebiscite, a democratic necessity soon will unravel the world's complex congruence!!
