Bhanu’s Journey to Build SaaS SiteGPT.ai with 16K/MMR Revenue

Imagine you live in the city, then you decide to resign and go home to your parents. You play a game in your life “build something you want”. That’s what Bhanu, a young programmer from India, did. He decided to go home to his parents and try out various SaaS and products. And as usual, from the many he tried, he finally found a SaaS that was profitable.

Currently there are at least 2 SaaS Bhanu continues to generate revenue, Feather.so and SiteGPT.ai.

Feather.so

The first one is Feather.so, Bhanu’s first SaaS that paid off. Feather is a Notion-based blogging platform. Simply put, we make Notion the CMS for our articles.

Insights from Feather.so

The thing I learned from Feather.so is that there are advantages when we build SaaS based on third-party service APIs, in this case Notion. The advantage is that we are like getting a shell with eggs at once. Notion has a large user base. Those who like Notion will likely like the services that integrate with it. Because humans tend to want All-in-One services.

Another lesson is about the importance of choosing a domain name. Bhanu initially chose the domain MDX.one before changing it to Feather.so. This naming is important.

According to DamengChen, also an IndieHacker, domain naming for business has the same analogy as the real estate business. There are many houses, buildings but one of the things that makes it expensive is the location.

Likewise with online business, there are many SaaS with the same idea out there. But the right domain puts it at the top of the search engines.

SiteGPT.ai

Bhanu’s second SaaS called SiteGPT was even more successful. This SaaS is based on OpenAI, where we can create custom Chat based on GPT Chat and then embed it into our business web.

From the experience of building SaaS, Bhanu is getting better at finding opportunities. This is because he continues to follow trends and communicate with the community on X (formerly Twitter).

Lessons from SiteGPT.ai

Btw, about following the trends I also think about this quite a lot. I used to think that following trends was not good, not just me, there are many business content that says that. But when I think about it again, trends are a product of the times. And the product of the times chooses its people too. This means that when we don’t take advantage of existing trends we will miss the moment. Let’s imagine, even the scientists of electricity and light bulbs such as Tesla, Thomas Edison were people who followed the trend of their era, where the trend was electricity. Likewise, Bill Gates lived in the era of operating system trends. After all, there is also no loss in following the trend.

When following a trend, there are only two possibilities. We either lose time or we gain results. The first possibility, losing time cannot be considered a loss either because the knowledge gained from building is very expensive. The second advantage is that we succeed, for example, getting tens of millions, in the context of business, maybe this is small but we can’t get that much from our salary. People who are successful on TikTok, YouTube are also because they follow trends too. So I think there’s nothing to lose by following the trends.

Oh yes, about tools. Bhanu uses NextJS in his SaaS. NextJS, TailwindCSS.
