17th Century Country House To Host New Edinburgh Festival Fringe Show ‘Doppler’ : The Indiependent
The grounds of a 17th century country house will become the venue for Grid Iron Theatre Company’s new show .
After being in development for nearly three years, this production will make its world premiere in the woodlands of Newhailes House in Musselburgh, as part of Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Up to 35 people will be able to attend each performance.
The show is written and directed by Ben Harrison and produced by Judith Doherty. There will also be lighting design by Elle Taylor and set and costume design Becky Minto.
Outlander star Keith Fleming will play the titular role: a broken man who abandons his family to live in the forest following the death of his father. Supporting actors Sean Hay, Chloe-Ann Tylor and Nik Paget-Tomlinson complete the cast.
Despite initial plans for Doppler to be performed in August 2020, COVID-19 restrictions brought live productions to a halt. Additional problems arose when Storm Francis prevented them from turning the play into a film.
The company decided to take the footage they were able to gather and produce a documentary film charting the story of the show and its production entitled Doppler — The Story so Far.
Chief executive and co-artistic director Judith Doherty expressed her gratitude and excitement for the upcoming production: “We also want to say a massive thank you National Trust for Scotland for hosting Doppler.”
“We are so delighted to now be on terra firma and able to welcome our audience in person.”
The show will run from from 6–23 August. Tickets can be purchased on Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s website.
