Blackeyed Theatre To Tour ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ : The Indiependent

Blackeyed Theatre’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s dark psychological fantasy The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, is set to tour the UK from September 2021 to May 2022.

Many are familiar with the classic gothic tale. Doctor Henry Jekyll is a good man and well esteemed in his career. However, when a neurological experiment goes wrong, Jekyll creates the brutal Edward Hyde-an incarnate of pure evil.

The show will feature Blake Kubena in the titular roles of Henry Jekyll and his evil alter ego Edward Hyde. Joining the supporting cast are Zach Lee who will play Gabriel Utterson, Paige Round who will star as Eleanor Lanyon and Ashley Sean-Cook as Hastings Lanyon.

Nick Lane will direct with a musical score by Tristan Parkes. There will also be costume design by Naomi Gibbs and lighting design by Claire Childs. Physical theatre and movement, which will be prominent in the production, will be directed by Enric Ortuño.

Adrian McDougall, artistic director of Blackeyed Theatre, discussed the challenges faced during the show’s development due to Covid-19: “Like everyone working in theatre, we’re desperate to get back to live performance, and I know that The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a show that’s been two years in the making, will be worth the wait.”

“It’s vital that theatre and theatre makers have the chance to create that live experience for audiences in a way that’s safe and sustainable.”
