Bournemouth metallers Griever play fast, technical riffs inspired by the likes of Killswitch Engage and Trivium. They release their new EP, Soul Searcher on 27 thMay, where technicality is put to good use, along with some thundering breakdowns.

The title track is a good example, its melodic chorus and catchy guitar licks showing Griever to be something more than a gimmicky metalcore band. The overlapping guitar riffs in ‘Malevolent’ are topped off with vocalist David Seymour screaming: “You make me fucking sick” before an angry breakdown. The riffs in ‘Virulence’ are strongly reminiscent of Miss May I, while the piano in the bridge shows their diversity.

‘She Is Death’ features a long intro of what sounds like a choir chanting, and an eerie piano that would suit a horror film. The filtered guitar helps create a wall of noise. Seymour’s vocals are chopped up, which is a nice touch and compliments the big guitars.

The final track is recent single ‘A Pure Heart’. It meshes blastbeats with an infectious chorus, Luke Davis’ stunning vocals adding a new dimension to the track.

Soul Searcher showcases Griever’s talent, demonstrating why they are a force to be reckoned with in the South Coast metal scene.
