‘Killing Eve’ Is Returning For A Fourth and Final Season

BBC drama Killing Eve has revealed the upcoming season four is set to be its last, and will be premiering in 2022 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

A teaser posted on the show’s official Twitter account captioned “Anything worth having is worth the wait” and added at the end of the 18 second clip: “Oh, and one more thing. The final season.”

Based on the Codename Villanelle books by Luke Jennings, the show follows a British Intelligence operative in a game of cat and mouse with an international assassin.

Starring Sandra Oh as Eve and Jodie Comer as Villanelle, Killing Eve premiered in 2018 and has since gained numerous awards, including three Emmy nominations for Oh, a nomination and a win for Comer (who also received a BAFTA), and two nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as three Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Series — Drama.

Filming for the eight-episode fourth and final season will begin in early Summer this year in the U.K. and locations across Europe. Laura Neal ( Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) will be taking over as lead writer from season three’s Suzanne Heathcote.

The third season of the drama premiered almost a year ago, in April 2020, and the long wait for season four is due to COVID-19 delaying production.

Whilst fans of the show are disappointed that this will be the final season, BBC America have been said to be developing a number of potential spinoffs. Although nothing has yet been confirmed, it does seem that the production company are keen to continue and extend the Killing Eve universe. Viewers have commented across social media on likely story-lines, many featuring various Villanelle-esque proteges.
