NEON has released a new trailer for Brandon Cronenberg’s sci-fi thriller.

Possessor: Uncut follows the elite corporate assassin Vos, who uses brain-implant technology to take control of other people’s bodies and execute high-profile targets. As she sinks deeper into her latest assignment, Vos becomes trapped inside a mind that threatens to obliterate her.

Possessor premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January of this year to critical acclaim, though whether audiences will see the same version that critics did remains to be seen. Not only is the film now billed as Possessor: Uncut, but the trailer opens with a disclaimer that “the following film has not been modified from its original version,” implying that the previous version was somehow tampered or interfered with.

It marks the sophomore directorial feature of Brandon Cronenberg, son of legendary director David Cronenberg. The film stars Andrea Riseborough in the lead role, with Christopher Abbott, Sean Bean and Jennifer Jason Leigh in supporting roles.

If this trailer (as well as the previous, red-band trailer) is anything to go by, Brandon looks set to be following in his father’s footsteps to deliver an unflinchingly violent film with an emphasis on mental and physical trauma. Expect blood and guts galore, for this will surely not be an easy watch.

Possessor: Uncut is scheduled for release in US cinemas on 9 October, with a UK release date yet to be announced.
