‘Rebecca’ Remake: First Look At Armie Hammer and Lily James

Initial photos have been released of Lily James and Armie Hammer all kitted out for Ben Wheatley’s upcoming remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Rebecca.

Having not heard a peep from Netflix since the announcement of the new adaptation, we now have our first look at the cast in their respective roles. Based on the Daphne du Maurier novel, the story follows a newly-married young woman who visits her husband’s imposing family estate on the English coast. She soon finds herself battling the shadows of his dead first wife-the eponymous Rebecca-whose influence is still being felt in the house since her passing. The rest of the supporting cast include Kristin Scott Thomas, Ann Dowd, Keeley Hawesand Ben Crompton.

Back when the film was first announced, The Daily Mail’s interview with Lily James stated that audiences can expect something “trippy and psychedelic” from Rebecca. She described how she “kept having panic attacks while shooting” as her character “lives in a difficult head space”. She also commented on how the adaptation is “for today, with the idea that women aren’t necessarily the weaker sex.” This is equally apparent in James’ steely demeanor in the released images.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether Rebecca will stay faithful to the source material. But on cast alone, this movie looks promising. The initial images only add further anticipation for the upcoming psychological thriller, especially with the beautiful outfits the actors will be donning.

In addition to the photos, The Daily Mail reported that the film will debut on Netflix on 21 October, right in time for the spooky Halloween season. So, while we wait for autumn to arrive, feast your eyes on the initial images of the film. They’ve definitely got my toes tingling with excitement for what this Gothic tale has in store.
