Theatre News: Salford Lowry to Reopen From November

The Lowry Theatre in Salford, Greater Manchester, is to reopen with two socially distanced shows this November and December.

From November 27th until January 10th 2021, the theatre will play about the wives of King Henry VIII. From December 12th to January 10th 2021, families will be able to enjoy The Gruffalo, based on the children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The plays were originally meant to be performed in the 450-seat Quays Theatre but have since moved to the 1,700-seat Lowry, which will allow social distancing of 1 metre to take place.

Temperature checks will be taken from every audience member while face coverings will be mandatory. Sanitising stations and staggered entry times will also aim to reduce the volume of people in any given space at once.

Six previously toured at The Lowry over Christmas 2019, where it enjoyed a sell out run.

The Lowry is also being repurposed by the Ministry of Justice to tackle delays in the court system, with four court rooms in operation to deal with the over 46,000 backlog in cases.
