Theatre News: Turbine Theatre to Stage Numerous Outdoor Thameside Season Performances
With the further easing of lockdown, the Turbine Theatre has announced an open-air, socially distanced series of performances. Located next to the Thames, the theatre is set to play host to a rich mix of concerts, family friendly entertainment, musical revivals and Shakespearean shows.
The season will commence on the 26th August and last for three weeks. Shows such as Horrible Histories Barmy Britain (26 to 29th August), One Duck Down (30th August) and A Bard in the Yard (6th September) are to be performed.
Excitingly, Turbine Theatre is also to stage a musical revival of the acclaimed Hair. It focuses on a group of hippies in the 1960s who are anti-war and politically aware. With Arlene Philips as director, musical numbers include ‘Good Morning, Star Shine’ and ‘Aquarius.’
The cast includes Jodie Steele ( Heathers), Layton Williams ( Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Jordan Luke Cage (& Juliet) and Grace Mouat ( Six). Philips said: “I am thrilled to be directing this small but mighty open air concert of Hair.”
Other shows include The Final Countdown (8th September), Macbeth (9th September) and Great Expectations (12 September). Vintage music fans will revel in a special performance from The Femmes on the afternoon of the 13th September.
More highlights are sure to come from Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona on the 15th September and The Barricade Boys on the 18th September.
