Grammy-nominated Liverpool DJ duo Camelphat and Nottingham troubadour Jake Bugg have teamed up for an unlikely collaboration on ‘Be Someone’. The track debuted on Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World and has all the makings of a summer festival anthem, though not obnoxiously so.

The cut is quintessential Camelphat, minimalist techno underpinned by pulsating bass, slowly building as the minutes glide by. Bugg’s indolent vocals inject a sense of emotion which should seem at odds with the vibe of the track, but somehow doesn’t; melded with understated electro beats, each line is abruptly punctuated with an almost tender, “Here to be someone / Tryna be someone”.

Catch Camelphat at Creamfields and Jake Bugg at Moseley Folk & Arts Festival at the end of August this year.
