HI SIENNA, the brightly dressed, alt-pop band from Manchester, have given us an exclusive listen to their new song ‘Car’, which is now available on Spotify and Apple Music.

HI SIENNA’s songs ‘Favourite Thing’ and ‘Love Sick’ are energetic and vibrant, with a strong bass, lively guitar riffs and softer but pop-punk drum beat. Both songs are about love, sex and passion, and although quite cheeky, both explore the reality of falling for someone who you know is toxic for you.

Their new song ‘Car’ delves deep into the synth-pop genre, with a prominent dance beat, a sturdy bass riff, and a sexy and smooth guitar solo near the end, reminiscent of The 1975 song ‘Chocolate’. HI SIENNA have nailed the use of a catchy and memorable chorus. I do think the song could have used a more prominent and heavier drum beat but I appreciate the dance vibe that has been achieved instead.

Lead singer Poppy Jo sings with a seductive and husky voice that compliments the melody, creating a high-spirited, sparkling and lively song. It seems HI SIENNA have exited modern pop and entered into the new wave genre. Not only can ‘Car’ be likened to Blondie’s ‘One Way or Another’ but when the music video for ‘Car’ comes out, HI SIENNA’s distinctive use of colour will no doubt prove the uncanny similarity.
