‘Dishes’ is all about the little things. Even the unwashed ones that piled up on the kitchen side. It’s clear straight away that this track was written with a certain individual in mind. Rising pop sensation Lauv has released a surprise brand-new quarantine-made EP, Without You. This 4-track EP is made up of songs written and produced in lockdown, including ‘Dishes’, which even has a home-made video to match (no dishes were harmed in the making).

This first track effortlessly highlights that the simplistic, everyday moments hold the most meaning after parting ways with someone — “I wash my hair out in the shower / But something still remains”. Lauv expresses lingering tender feelings of absence for his past love and questions whether they would be together if different actions were taken.

This track has a late summer evening, blue sky vibe with a free-flowing melody and light beat. The minimalistic, soft guitar perfectly accompanies his delicate vocals that hit all the sensitive notes. ‘Dishes’ underlines Lauv’s uninterrupted thoughts on repeat throughout, making the lyrics the highly relatable focal point of his music.

Moments before this surprise EP was released, Lauv tweeted “I’M SO PROUD OF THIS MUSIC” and rightly so. Lockdown just got a whole lot better.
