Track Review: In My Room // THUMPER

The Irish rock scene is in rude health at the moment, with the likes of Fontaines D.C. and Just Mustard blowing the dust off speakers across the island. However, no band embodies this guitar-heavy wall-of-sound quality quite like Dublin sextet THUMPER. With a string of releases already under their belt, the lads have unleashed The Indiependent’s favourite THUMPER track yet in the form of ‘In My Room’.

Striking the perfect balance between a singalong anthem and almost pop punk chorus whilst staying true to their noise rock roots, ‘In My Room’ abounds with earworm riffs and barely contained anger. “In My Room’ is a discussion about willing yourself into a reclusive state,” the band explains, “telling yourself it’s an act of autonomy when really it’s an act of self-sabotage.” The frustration of self-imposed loneliness is harnessed and channelled into this punch in the gut of a song.

The accompanying video directed by Stephen Patrick Allen is filmed in black and white and sees the band perform around a sofa, framed by their own lyrics. Following a high profile feature on Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ playlist, expect THUMPER to be regulars on the touring circuit this summer, boasting a headline slot at Hard Working Class Heroes, joining Fangclub on a national tour and playing their first UK show at a sold out Shacklewell Arms in London.
