Heaven’s Reckoning

On a dusty dirt road, three miles from the middle of nowhere, the most powerful entity in the known universe walked.

Paced was more like it.

There were only two beings in all of creation that made MIchael nervous.

And he was about to see one of them.

The Archangel walked towards the bridge where his brother waited for it.

A deputy sheriff cruised down the old county road. Taking a shortcut to his girlfriend’s house. Any other road would go through town and his wife would hear where he was going.

The deputy saw a man walking in the road.

“Evening,” he said, pulling up.

“Good evening Deputy,” Michael said.

“Where ya heading?” The lawman asked. It wasn’t uncommon to see people ambling down the backroads, but it was usually tweakers or country boys out hunting. The man on the road didn’t seem like either. He was sharply dressed, and stood ramrod straight. He looked like a CEO, and there weren’t any companies out in the woods. At least legal ones.

“To the bridge,” Michael said.

“Not gonna jump I hope.”

“Meeting my brother.”
