Living in the West is Better. Really?
Do we know how to really live…? Lessons from being in Pakistan
Having spent a few weeks in Pakistan it made me question everything I know. No country I’ve ever been to made me question my own existence. I had those type of questions when my father passed away (may he rests in peace). Everything I thought I knew about life, how to dress, how to eat, how to behave becomes a real question.
How could I describe Pakistan..? Words cannot describe Pakistan. The closest I get to describing it is it’s a pulsing open heart with all the colours of the rainbow, smells and flavours. Some people would describe Pakistan as a conservative but it’s far from it. People are relaxed.
Things get done. It’s if you dream it you can have it on a daily basis. Everything is doable. Everything is real. It’s untouched by the Western consumerism and I hope it never will be.
My husband and I travelled to the Northern part of Pakistan Gilgit-Baltistan and we ventured to Hunza valley too. We saw a different Pakistan. Islamabad is a purpose build city, we chose it strategically so we can get to the North. North of Pakistan is heaven on earth. When I think back of the North of Pakistan it was a dream I cannot believe it’s actually real!
The Western Way of Living
Being in Pakistan it really made me question how Western society lives. For instance, the Western society doesn’t even know how to wipe their ass. I’ve seen a show on BBC teaching people how to wipe your ass. Is this for real? In Muslim countries people use water. In fact, water is the most effective way to clean yourself.
Women don’t know how to wear clothes in the West. If you call it clothes by exposing their boobs and wearing skirts up their bums then maybe…? To be honest, people should wear whatever they like but the vulgarity that comes with not wearing many clothes is disgusting. How is this respectful? How’s this feminism?
Women in Pakistan look so beautiful and wear the most beautiful gowns. If I could I’d take photos of them but it’s not always possible. The food in Pakistan nothing compares to it. I haven’t had bad food in Pakistan. People here don’t know what bland food is.
In fact, it’s impossible to order bland food here. They put some soul into food when they cook rest assured, you’ll taste it! People know how to eat and look after themselves. There’s a lot of fast food in the West. My heart breaks when I see a little kid eating McDonald’s.
I am sad to see when people eat bland chicken or turkey and they think it’s a real meal. It makes me think how uncivilised the Western society is. In terms of the food they consume, the clothes they wear and the behaviour that comes with it.
The Other Way of Living..?
Maybe if we cover ourselves a bit more, we’d have a bit more respect for one another? Maybe the behaviour would be more respectful? If we don’t drink as a society maybe just maybe we’d be more awake..? Awake to create and do something with our own lives..? If one continuously consumes alcohol the body needs about two three days to get rid off alcohol toxins.
During that time your body is busy getting rid off stuff, you are not functioning properly.. Your cognitive function is 50%. How are you suppose to create? Make a world a better place when you are trying to get your head straight and your body is busy getting rid off the toxins?
The Western world wants you to be half awake, so you work for the man, have a massive mortgage and slave your life away. It wants you to be part of the system, where there is no life. You’ve got a few times a year as your holiday. Paying off your mortgage, pay for your kid’s education and don’t live in the meantime.
Life passes. Look back and what have you achieved? Paid off the mortgage? Paid for your kids education and now what?! Have you helped anyone? Have you seen the world? Have you done something to make the world a better place? Life is not about you it’s about how you ‘touched’ and helped others.
Is there a better way to Live?
Yes! See Pakistan! Learn from it, there’s so much to learn. I’d recommend going to Pakistan with an open heart and without judgment. When you look at everything with a baby’s curiosity and no judgment the real magic reveals in front of you.
You can live better. You can live and help the world to be a better place by not abiding to the Western way of living. Don’t get sucked in into the corporate world nonsense. I certainly was at one point of my life. I am so glad I woke up from it. Paying for a big house, cars and kid’s education it’s not it, there’s more to life! In fact, a lot more to life!
Going to holidays in Europe is great but it’s pretty much the same to where you live if you are from Europe. You can find the same shops, similar food, clothes and culture. Going further like Pakistan it really is a culture shock and you see a different way of being. It’s not the same! I am not saying it’s better or worse — it’s different!
We shouldn’t think in terms the West is better and others don’t know how to live. We should think in terms of being inclusive of everyone and not only respect each other’s differences but also learn from it! What have I learned from being in Pakistan? I know nothing about life! I’ve only now starting to see the real way of living and understanding how to live and live well.
Love and Light!
