Carrie Fisher has died after suffering a heart attack last week. She was 60.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” family spokesperson Simon Halls said in a statement on Tuesday to The Insider on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was on a flight from London to Los Angeles International Airport on Friday when she went into cardiac arrest. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Eric Scott told The Insider that they responded to LAX for a patient on an inbound flight at 12:11 p.m. and paramedics provided advanced life support and transported the patient to a local hospital.

The Insider spoke with Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, on Friday when her condition was unknown.

“She is in the intensive care unit, she is being well looked after,” Todd said at the time. “If everyone could just pray for her that would be good. The doctors are doing their thing and we don’t want to bug them. We are waiting by patiently.”

Fisher’s mother, legendary Hollywood actress Debbie Reynolds later reported that her daughter’s condition was improving. “Carrie is in stable condition. If there is a change, we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes,’’ Reynolds tweeted Sunday.

The Insider can confirm that Fisher never regained consciousness despite her mother’s Christmas Day tweet.

Following the news of Fisher’s death, stars immediately took to social media to mourn the legendary Star Wars actress’ passing.

“No words,” Mark Hamill captioned a black-and-white throwback photo of the pair, dressed in character as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Hamill ended his tweet with the hashtag “#devastated.”

“Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely,” Harrison Ford said in a statement. “My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her Mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her.”

George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise, released a statement on Tuesday reacting to the sad news.

“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives,” Lucas, 72, noted. “She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved. In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess — feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans. She will be missed by all.”

Fisher’s mother issued a statement on Facebook. “Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter,” Reynolds wrote. “I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop.”

Fisher is survived by her mother and daughter.
