A Poem

Rejection —

Cuts like a knife
Wounded pride
There’s nowhere to hide
despite the shame
the tears
the anger
that never goes away…
Why stay?
Can’t breathe
feels like dying
sinking
below the ground
as everyone watches
and no one catches
your fall!

What’s the point of it all?
Being an outcast
unheard
both of your hands bound
so you can’t even
raise a hand to ask —
Why me?
Have I not tried
and tried and tried
and when I did break
why did you trample
upon my heart?
