There Were No Butterflies

A poem on grief

Image by Игорь Левченко from Pixabay

There were no butterflies when you left,
There were no signs,
That death has come at last,
And you would soon be gone.

I should have dreamt of shadows,
I should have felt a fear,
But I carried on as though nothing's wrong,
Though our parting was very near.
