Oscar-Worthy Snacks: Part 1

As the 2016 Oscars approach us, the thoughts on everyone’s minds are
1. Is this Leo’s year?
2. What am I going to eat during?!?

We have no insight into Leonardo’s fate, however we do have a few ideas when it comes to Oscar-worthy snacks. Idle Time created 8 recipes to pair with each nominated Best Picture. Pick your favorite recipe, or make them all. The choice is yours.

1. The Room Service Cocktail

Inspired by Room, Idle Time brings you the perfect cocktail pairing.

The Room Service Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • Bottle of Vodka- chilled
  • Lemon (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Shake vodka over ice.
  2. Fill glass.
  3. Garnish with a twist (optional).
  4. Drink. Repeat. Forget.

2. Martian-mallow S’mores

Ingredients:

  • Cinnamon graham crackers
  • Jumbo marshmallows
  • Chocolate bars (preferably Lindt spicy red-chili infused)
  • Red cake sprinkles.

Preparation:

  1. Place a cracker on a plate.
  2. The chocolate goes on the cracker.
  3. Jumbo marshmallow, on its side, right in the middle of the cracker.
  4. (This is the tricky part): carve out a little wedge in the middle of the marshmallow with a knife. Pour red sprinkles liberally into the crevice (and everywhere else if you want).
  5. Microwave (because Mark Watney would want you to science the shit out of this) for 15–20 seconds, watching the mallow puff and spill all over the plate.
  6. Smoosh another cracker on top, and stuff the sticky mess in your face.

3. French Onion Dip served with Mark Ruffles–o Chips

Ingredients:

  • 3 Onions- chopped
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • S&P to taste

Preparation:

  1. Combine the onions and water in a crockpot. Cook for 9 hours
  2. Stir in the rest of the ingredients
  3. Serve with Mark Ruffles-o Chips

Ingredients:

  • Hot Dogs & Buns
  • Yellow Mustard
  • Chopped Onion

Cajun style Chili

  • 4 large carrots
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1–2 cups tomato (chopped)
  • 1 can black beans (drained & rinsed)
  • 1 can whole kernel corn
  • 1 Tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 Tsp Dried Thyme
  • 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 lb ground turkey (optional: remove for a vegetarian option)

Preparation:

  1. In a Cuisinart, chop the onion and carrots together.
  2. Then, cook the onions and carrots with 1 Tbsp olive oil in a dutch oven.
  3. When the onions are translucent, add the chopped tomatoes, black beans, corn, and spices.
  4. Bring to a simmer and then lower the heat.
  5. Cover and cook on medium heat until the liquid dissolves giving you a nice, thick chili.
  6. While that’s simmering, cook the ground turkey. Add this last if you are choosing to make the meat chili. Skip this step if you prefer to stay veggie.
  7. Put a hot dog in a bun and cover with chili. Top with chopped onion, yellow mustard, and cheese (optional).
  8. FEAST!
