Two weeks ago, we started this new journey for Cosmos.

Now, after part one of this series, in which we explored the future for the Stack, and part two, where we talked about Growth and the role of the Hub, we look forward to 2025 and set our sights on the first months of the new year for the ICF, and Interchain Labs.

Let’s talk about goals, what you can expect from our teams in Q1, and how you can join the journey and support:

  1. The goal: To build a decentralized platform for world-scale apps.
  2. Help us build a first-class team for Cosmos.
  3. Q1: Hand-off, maintenance, and first-wins for Hub and Stack.
  4. Get involved and support the Cosmos vision.

The goal: To build a decentralized platform for world-scale apps.

We are building Cosmos because we want to rapidly accelerate the transition to a user-owned internet. The reality is, that crypto’s impact today is limited. The developer platforms that exist to bring the world on-chain are not great:

  • They can’t scale beyond a very small number of users and a small amount of data without massive outages or costs.
  • They offer very little in the way of programmability and expressivity for newer use cases.
  • They require you to sacrifice your economics to a foreign token (e.g. ETH/SOL) and your trust in operators selected by that token’s users/holders.
  • The user experience is confusing and slow.
  • Most blockchains are entirely public and sacrifice end-user privacy.

We are in the middle of an urgent opportunity. Web3 growth has exceeded all expectations in the last couple of years, and the regulatory environment has never been more favorable. In the next 12–24 months, many at-scale financial institutions, apps, and teams will try to come on chain. The technology is just not ready for this.

Cosmos has the right architecture. Sovereign. Interoperable. Scalable. If we move fast, we can unite the pieces and make Cosmos the developer platform the world comes on chain with to build the next generation decentralized web. One that is massively scalable and reliable, deeply programmable for many use cases, dead easy for any person or developer to engage with, preloaded with privacy primitives, and legitimately decentralized and verifiable.

For that, we need your help. Let’s go after it.

Help us Form a First-class Team for Cosmos.

One of our top organizational priorities is growing the Interchain Labs team. Visit our careers page; jobs are live and will continue to open in Q1 for engineering, growth, and operations. We are staffing:

  • The Cosmos Hub Product and Engineering team.
  • The Interchain Stack and Skip Product/Engineering team.
  • The Growth team (builder and institutional adoption).
  • The Marketing team.

While we are building a lean team, the challenge ahead is vast across the board. Web3 is still far from perfect in experience, scalability, and adoption. These aspects need to improve 100x — and today, Cosmos, the Hub, and the Interchain Stack are best suited to breach that barrier. To break through, we need to build an amazing team of engineers, product leaders, and growth professionals.

Don’t see a role that represents you, but feel you or someone else could be a great contributor to Cosmos? Reach out to Mag (Cosmos Hub), Barry (Stack), or Nico (Growth).

Q1: Hand-off, Maintenance, and First-wins.

The first quarter of 2025 will be defined by transitions, stabilization, and the first product tests for both the Hub and the Interchain Stack. Interchain Labs will:

  1. Finalize staffing of the Interchain Labs core team.
  2. Begin onboarding to all core components from stewards.
  3. Initiate maintenance, security, and performance optimization for the Interchain Stack and Cosmos Hub.
  4. Prepare both the Hub and the Interchain Stack for rapid development.

For the Hub, that means working towards making the Hub safe and easy to maintain so that it can onboard new features and applications at scale. The team will explore the removal of the LSM module, accelerate blocktimes, and reinvest in audits. The team will seek to prepare the Hub to onboard products, and start discussions for the first Hub product proposals with the community.

For the Interchain Stack, it means working towards delivering the V2s of the Cosmos SDK, and IBC (Eureka), and accelerating Comet BFT’s transaction speed. The team will aim to upstream an EVM solution for Cosmos chains and prepare to open source Skip:Go as part of the stack. These priorities set the stage for a more easily extensible Interchain Stack, expanding IBC interoperability to reach beyond Cosmos natively, and bringing new seamless on-chain experiences to users.

If you have feedback, please reach out to the team leads shared in this blog!

Get Involved and Support the Cosmos Vision.

Are job opportunities the only way you can contribute? Certainly not!

If you are a user, builder, chain-builder, validator, infrastructure provider, doubtful web2 user, partner, ecosystem voice, or builder… We want to talk, listen, and work with you — we are building for you.

Are you interested or have ideas for the Cosmos Hub?

Reach out to Mag and the Hub team.

We want to discuss how the Hub can better help the ecosystem, and learn the pain points of builders and validators on the Hub. Share product ideas for the Hub, and ATOM.

Are you building or have ideas for the Interchain Stack?

Reach out to Barry and the Stack team.

We want to hear about your experiences building with the Stack, the aspects that block you, the features that turned you in or away. Help us validate features, or solve new challenges, like privacy.

Are you interested in growing Cosmos?

Reach out to Nico and the Marketing team.

We are constantly seeking to onboard new builders and users onto Cosmos. Know a university where we could build a club? Want to create a hub in your hometown? Have you just deployed on Cosmos and want to show the world? Reach out.

Are you a builder, project, or institution coming to Cosmos?

Reach out to Bora on the builders team, and Durgham on the institutional team.

We are supporting builders with training, resources, guidance, and projects by fostering partnerships, connecting to resources, and providing technical guidance through the next evolution of the builder’s program. We’re also building an institutional team to help TradFi, and other verticals breach into Web3 and bring new use cases to their platforms.

The team is always looking for ways to connect while building; we will do our best to be involved and listen to everyone, so don’t hesitate to reach out, and give time to the team to respond.

Happy holidays, Cosmos.

We are focused on setting the team and organizational foundations for a strong start in 2025. Thank you for joining us on this new journey and for the exciting past couple of weeks. Now, we look onward to building!

Expect to hear from us early next year with more updates and another Town Hall.

Happy holidays.

The Interchain Labs and Interchain Foundation teams.
